The incident occurred as Ethereum faced a surge of address poisoning attacks and dust transfers following the Fusaka update.
Project 0 founder MacBrennan Peet promised to fully reimburse verified losses caused by the attack.
Attackers reportedly successfully hacked a team member's GitHub account to redirect site traffic for approximately 40 minutes.
