What's the real-world utility of prediction markets anyway? Beyond speculation, are there actual scenarios where they solve problems traditional systems can't? Curious if anyone's seeing practical applications take off in crypto lately.

Prediction markets are still pretty useless right now; there really aren’t many practical use cases... However, there does seem to be some potential in insurance and weather forecasting.

To be honest, prediction markets are currently just a bunch of gamblers entertaining themselves. I haven't seen any real use cases that solve actual problems. Weather forecasting? Sports events? All of these can be handled with traditional data models.

ngl prediction markets sound like wrapping gambling as "financial innovation." Where are the real use cases? Isn't it just the same old tricks in the crypto space?

Prediction markets? To put it bluntly, they're basically just upgraded versions of casinos right now, with very few applications that actually solve real problems... But those political predictions on Polymarket are indeed quite interesting—much more accurate than polls.

The biggest use of prediction markets is to make information more transparent, but in reality, most are still being manipulated by whales... Real-world applications? I haven't seen anything particularly special.

Prediction markets? To put it plainly, they're just a new playground for retail investors to get fleeced, while institutions have long been playing the chip game. Real-world application? The data speaks for itself—most of the liquidity is locked up by top whales, and small orders have no pricing power at all.
