Russia to ban gold bar exports starting in 2026, further tightening capital controls

Abstract generation in progress

[On-chain News] Recently, there have been new developments from Russia. Deputy Prime Minister Novak revealed at the Strategic Development Committee that starting from 2026, Russia will implement a ban on gold bar exports.

This regulation targets not only gold, but also cash rubles of unknown origin. Novak emphasized the need to plug the loopholes of disorderly capital outflows within the country, even if the funds are flowing to member states of the Eurasian Economic Union. The route for exporting gold bars will also be completely shut down.

It appears that Russia is taking capital controls increasingly seriously. For those following the precious metals market and cross-border capital flows, this policy is worth noting—after all, gold has always been a hard currency, and such a national-level export restriction could have a ripple effect on regional markets.
