On December 24, according to Arkham analyst Emmett Gallic monitoring, Aleksey Bilyuchenko, who has been charged by the U.S. Department of Justice as a Headqiao hacker, and related entities have deposited 1,300 BTC ( worth approximately $114 million ) into unknown trading platforms in the past 7 days. The series of addresses still hold 4,100 BTC (worth $360 million). They have sold a total of 2,300 BTC. Public information shows that Aleksey Bilyuchenko has been co-operating with Alexander Vinnik since 2011 on BTC-e, a notorious trading platform accused of laundering money for global cybercriminals, including ransomware, identity theft, and drug trafficking. BTC-e was shut down by law enforcement in 2017. The U.S. Department of Justice accuses him of collaborating with Aleksandr Verner to infiltrate Mt. Gox (then the world’s largest Bitcoin exchange) starting in 2011, stealing approximately 647,000 Bitcoins (leading to Mt. Gox’s bankruptcy). They are charged with conspiracy to launder money, with some of the stolen funds used to operate BTC-e.
