When I was young, becoming a Young Pioneer meant honor and also meant being promised a future as a "successor of socialism." But only as I grew up did I gradually realize that there is more than one way to be a successor: some become successors to power, some become successors to wealth, and the vast majority of people simply inherit a fate of being consumed, becoming fuel itself.
