Trump or Abandon Nomination of Hasset, Kevin Waugh Leads Next Fed Chair Prediction

White House economic advisor Hasset hinted he might not stay on and has essentially exited the race for Fed Chair. According to Kalshi and Polymarket data, former board member Kevin Waugh's chances of winning have risen to about 60%, ahead of Hasset (15% to 16%) and current board member Waller (13% to 14%).

Hasset recently publicly stated that he "discussed from the very beginning whether it was better to stay in the White House or go to the Fed," and believes Trump "may be right," that the White House is his most suitable position. This is seen as a further signal of his withdrawal from the Fed Chair nomination race. Earlier (around January 16), Trump publicly told Hasset at a White House event, "I actually want you to stay in your current position, if you want to know the truth."

Powell's term will end on May 15, and Trump is expected to announce his successor within this month.
