🇪🇺🇩🇪 Germany pushes for a digital euro faster than expected.

The President of the Bundesbank, Joachim Nagel, announced at the Bundesbank Spotlight conference in Berlin that he wants to accelerate the development of the digital euro and euro stablecoins to reduce the EU's dependence on Visa and Mastercard, which account for nearly two-thirds of card payments in the eurozone.
The goal is a "simple, secure, and European" system, respectful of privacy, with a launch planned around 2029.
"The digital euro will also serve as a cost-effective alternative to existing digital payment methods and will stimulate competition in the payments market."
Nagel assured in his speech that the Eurosystem will not be able to identify who is behind individual payments.
