Elon Musk's stance on extraterrestrials: a scientific re-evaluation
Elon Musk, founder of SpaceX, firmly aligns himself with skeptics regarding the presence of extraterrestrials on our planet. Unlike conspiracy theories circulating among certain groups, the billionaire has expressed nuanced positions based on logical reasoning. At the core of his argument is a simple yet powerful question: why, in the age of smartphones and ubiquitous cameras, do we not have irrefutable visual evidence of an extraterrestrial visit?
Elon Musk Challenges the Lack of Tangible Evidence
On his platform X (formerly Twitter), the founder of SpaceX stated that he finds no solid trace of extraterrestrial visits to Earth. Videos circulating online, especially on YouTube, claiming to show unexplained aerial phenomena, suffer from deliberately poor quality, according to him. This lack of clarity makes it impossible to definitively identify these objects. Musk highlights a remarkable paradox: most of the world’s population now carries a relatively high-quality camera in their pocket. If creatures from other worlds were regularly visiting our atmosphere, how can we explain the absence of convincing visual proof ever being documented?
The Physical Argument: The Distances of the Universe
Beyond visual considerations, Elon Musk presents a fundamental scientific argument regarding extraterrestrials: the enormous distances separating planetary systems pose an almost insurmountable obstacle. A hypothetical spacecraft from a distant civilization would have to overcome staggering technical and energetic challenges to reach Earth with a living crew. This reality makes the possibility of a covert invasion unlikely from a physics standpoint.
Edward Snowden and the Lack of Government Certainty
Even figures known for their access to state secrets remain cautious on this issue. Edward Snowden, who had unprecedented access to CIA, NSA, and U.S. military archives, told Joe Rogan in 2019 that he had not discovered concrete indicators proving extraterrestrial presence. However, he acknowledged that “there is probably something beyond our usual understanding.” This cautious phrasing contrasts with more definitive claims.
Between Official Acknowledgment and Persistent Uncertainty
Recently, U.S. authorities have adopted a less direct stance. The Pentagon has released documents and videos concerning aerial encounters involving military pilots and unidentified flying objects. The agency now recognizes that these UFOs could originate beyond our terrestrial borders. Meanwhile, the international astronomical community has been pursuing a systematic search for decades: analyzing millions of stars for signals or biological indicators. So far, these efforts have yielded no conclusive data.
Elon Musk’s approach thus reveals a divide between legitimate scientific curiosity about extraterrestrials and the rigorous methodology required before drawing conclusions. Lack of evidence does not mean evidence of absence, but it calls for caution in the face of extraordinary claims.
