⛽ Fuel prices must increase by more than 15% to be adjusted immediately, no longer breaking the operating schedule as before
After nearly 2 weeks of continuous fuel price adjustments at an unprecedented frequency of (6 times in less than half a month, the Government has just amended Resolution 36 with notable changes.
Specifically, to adjust prices immediately, the base price must increase by 15% or more, double the previous threshold of 7%. Conversely, when the base price drops sharply by 10% or more compared to the previous period, it can also be adjusted downward immediately without waiting for the scheduled adjustment.
Beyond these thresholds, all fluctuations will revert to the fixed operating schedule every Thursday as usual.
In other words, previously when global prices moved by 7%, the ministries could adjust prices immediately the next day. Now, prices must rise above 15% to break the schedule; otherwise, they must wait until Thursday.
Meanwhile, RON95 fuel has just exceeded 30,690 VND per liter, with the stabilization fund of over 5.6 trillion VND having been spent continuously over 6 periods and more than half depleted. Accordingly, the Prime Minister agreed to the policy of drawing from the state budget using increased revenue in 2025 for the fuel stabilization fund. When the crisis passes, the authorities will use the fund’s resources to reimburse the budget.
Overall, the Government is trying to curb the continuous price hikes that cause shock to citizens and businesses.
