Iran just launched a missile that no one on Earth can intercept. For 70 years, missile defense systems have been very simple. Just shoot it down before it hits the ground. Iran just proved that's no longer feasible.
The Fattah-2 missile was launched. Israel fired 10 interceptor missiles. All 10 missed. The missile struck a fortified IDF command center. 7 senior officers were killed. This is why this changes everything. A hypersonic glide vehicle does NOT fly in a straight line. It flies to the edge of the atmosphere. Then it glides down – changing direction, changing altitude, moving at Mach 15 speed. That's about 18,000 km/hour. No radar in the world tracks well enough to intercept it. Iron Dome – the most famous missile defense system on Earth – was built to counter this threat. It failed.
And Iran tested the Fattah-3, a missile that launches 15 separate warheads from ONE missile. Iron Dome cannot track 15 targets flying at Mach 15 simultaneously. Israel spent 20 billion dollars to build this defense system. Iran just made it obsolete.
Oil prices hit 126 dollars a barrel this week precisely because of this threat. If you think this is limited to the Middle East, you haven't been paying attention.
