According to Techub News, The Block reports that Gnosis co-founder Friederike Ernst and Zisk founder Jordi Baylina announced the launch of the Ethereum Economic Zone (EEZ) plan at the EthCC conference in Cannes. This initiative, co-funded by the Ethereum Foundation, aims to enable smart contracts connected to Rollups to call contracts on the mainnet or other EEZ Rollups, providing the same guarantees as those deployed on Ethereum itself. The framework uses ETH as the default gas token, eliminating the need for additional bridging infrastructure. According to the release plan, the EEZ will operate as a Swiss non-profit organization, with all software released as open source. The project’s technical specifications and performance benchmarks are expected to be published in the coming weeks.

The project is being launched in conjunction with an informal alliance called the EEZ Alliance. Founding members include the DeFi lending protocol Aave, block builders Titan and Beaver Build, the real-world asset platform Centrifuge, and the tokenized stock project xStocks.
