Leviathan’s restart eases some regional gas supply pressure, but geopolitical risk is still firmly in the picture

🌊 Israel has allowed the Leviathan gas field to resume operations after more than a month of shutdown caused by the war, marking the return of one of the most important gas supply sources in the Eastern Mediterranean. Operated by Chevron, Leviathan plays a major role in Israel’s energy balance.
⚡ The restart could help gas flows to Egypt and Jordan gradually stabilize again, supporting feedstock availability for LNG exports and easing part of the region’s energy supply strain. For the market, this is a calming signal after a period of disruption.
🛢️ Even so, Israel’s Energy Ministry said the field is resuming operations only “at this stage,” which suggests security risks are still present and further interruptions cannot be ruled out. Leviathan’s second shutdown in just 10 months is also a reminder that Middle East energy flows remain highly exposed to conflict.
🏗️ With Leviathan’s expansion project already approved earlier this year, the field’s return is not only a commercial development but also a sign of Israel’s growing importance in regional gas supply and LNG flows toward Europe
