Been looking at Pakistan's currency history and it's honestly wild how much the rupee has depreciated over the decades. Back in 1947, 1 USD to PKR was just 3.31 – pretty stable for the first 8 years actually. Then things started shifting in the mid-50s when it hit 3.91, and by the early 70s it jumped to 11 PKR per dollar.

The real acceleration happened from the 90s onwards. In 1990 it was around 21 PKR, but by 2000 we're already at 51.90. Fast forward to 2008 and you're looking at 81 PKR per dollar. The last few years have been rough – 2019 hit 163, 2020 was 168, and 2022 saw it spike to 240 PKR per dollar.

So in basically 77 years, the rupee went from 3.31 to 277. That's the story of currency debasement right there. Crazy to think about how much purchasing power has changed since 1947. Makes you wonder what the next decade looks like.
