Lately, social mining, points, and badges have become popular again, and I’ve been scrolling through my timeline so much I start to wonder if I’m just clocking in at work. To be honest, many projects talk about “attention as mining” in a very abstract way, but if you actually do the math on the effort: posting daily, mutual follows, completing tasks, in the end, you might only get a pretty avatar frame… which isn’t really worth it.
My current approach is pretty simple: first, ask myself if this can be solidified into an identity (like verifiable contributions, on-chain behavior), or if it’s just about accumulating points. If it’s the latter, I go with the flow, preferring to spend my time on things that are genuinely pushing forward—like modularity, DA, ZK—at least I learn something reusable. Anyway, don’t exhaust yourself just for badges; if you’re tired, stop. I still believe that “technological evolution will eventually filter out the bubbles.”
