(MENAFN) Iraq’s Transport Ministry confirmed Wednesday that Baghdad International Airport has been forced into a temporary closure following a technical malfunction, dismissing widespread speculation that the shutdown was security-related.

A ministry spokesperson told a state news agency that specialized technical crews had already been deployed to diagnose and address the fault. He indicated that once repair work concludes and final technical inspections are completed, flight operations are expected to resume within a matter of hours.

The spokesperson moved swiftly to counter a wave of claims circulating across social media platforms, firmly rejecting suggestions that the closure was tied to any local or domestic security concerns, or linked to broader international threats.

No further details regarding the nature of the technical fault were immediately disclosed.
