The Uruguayan government announced on the 24th that due to an outbreak of H5 avian influenza, the country has declared a state of health emergency nationwide. The Ministry of Livestock, Agriculture, and Fisheries issued a statement saying that recent reports of wild animals infected with H5 avian influenza virus in Maldonado, Rocha, and Canelones provinces prompted the decision to implement a nationwide health emergency. Under this status, Uruguay will reduce poultry movement, require poultry to be kept indoors, and suspend activities such as poultry-related trade fairs. To prevent the spread of the epidemic, the Ministry urges producers and the public to stay vigilant, avoid contact with sick or dead poultry, and report any suspicious cases through official channels.
