Amazon will no longer share reviews across all product variants, potentially reducing return rates.
IT Home, February 7 — Amazon announced that starting February 12, 2026, the platform will adjust the review sharing rules for variant products to improve review accuracy and help consumers make more rational purchasing decisions. This adjustment will allow consumers to see exclusive feedback for specific items before placing an order, enhance consumer trust, and potentially reduce return rates.
Currently, even if variants differ significantly in features and specifications, all variants share all reviews, which may cause reviews to not accurately reflect the actual experience of the specific variant consumers are interested in.
After this rule change, only product variants with minor differences that do not affect functionality will share reviews; variants with significant differences will no longer share reviews. This change may impact the overall star ratings and review counts for store products.
IT Home notes that the following types of product variants will continue to share reviews:
Amazon stated that these changes will be gradually implemented from February 12, 2026, to May 31, 2026, according to product categories.
