The Truth About Luck and Effort

In real competition, luck and effort are never mutually exclusive. They are a relay: luck carries you to the critical moment, and effort provides the space to shine; or you work desperately hard just to gamble on a bit of luck at the crucial moment.
Forbes is right: absolute success depends on luck, relative success depends on effort. You can't choose your starting point, but you can control the slope.
So don't obsess over which is more important. Effort is something you can grasp, luck is something you can't wait for. Without both, the game can't go on.
This is what the real world looks like—brutal but fair.
