Eni’s CEO, Claudio Descalzi, announced that Venezuela can now pay for gas from the Perla offshore field with oil due to eased U.S. sanctions, resolving a significant debt situation. Eni is exploring joint ventures with U.S. groups to increase oil output in Venezuela, which would help recover the approximately $3 billion owed to them. Additionally, Descalzi noted that Eni might eventually export some of the Perla facility’s gas to Europe, thus aiding in replacing liquefied natural gas supplies previously sourced from Russia.
