The City of Birmingham held a public hearing on whether to establish a six-month temporary suspension on new data centers
That vote has now been delayed, as the council agreed to send the proposal to the Planning and Zoning Committee before holding a full vote
“You’re kind of throwing the barn doors open to anything. Large-scale development of any kind is going to have serious impacts on any community. Data centers, in terms of power and water draw, are more of a regional issue”, said Charles Miller, policy director for the Alabama River
